My Backyard Hummingbirds
These are a few of my favorite photos. I started out over 2 years ago trying to learn how to perfectly capture these beautiful birds. I would search the internet for information from other photographers. Looked at their photos and read up on their setups. Finally the past summer I was able to get the detail in the photographs that I took.
The '08 summer was hard because for some reason the honeybees seem to swarm around our feeders and this drove away the hummers. When they did return I didn't have enough of a chance to spend with the camera and then they were gone for the year.
To take few photos I used a camera on a tripod with a wired remote trigger. Also I set up 3 other stands with Nikon SB-600 flashes. These were triggered by my onboard flash off a D200. After taken several practice shots and adjusting the settings I finally get the exposure and focus that I want. Of course the camera is manually set to a predetermine focus area.
This work actually got me interested in other types of bird photography. Next year I plan on adding some songbirds to my portfolio.
